Bogotá, the vibrant capital of Colombia, offers a rich blend of culture and history. For travelers this city
promises a comfortable and enriching experience with its welcoming hospitality, diverse cuisine, and
historical landmarks.
Hotels
We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Bogota, and it certainly did not disappoint. It is beautiful has an unbelievable
indoor pool and spa area that rivals any I have seen. The food and service is excellent including the club, I
highly recommend staying here. It is in a safe upscale business neighborhood called central Teusaquillo.
The only downside is it is about a 30 min ride to most tourist spots.
For a better location at of course a higher price point I would recommend The Sofitel Bogotá Victoria Regia
or the Four Seasons Hotel Bogota. Both offer a luxurious and comfortable stay. I would consider booking a
room in one of these two hotels in the upscale Zona Rosa area for my next visit. They are both five-star
hotels offering exceptional service, elegant rooms, and modern amenities. Zona Rosa is an upscale area
filled with boutiques, shopping malls, and art galleries. It’s a perfect place to find souvenirs and gifts. It is
also known for its safe and vibrant atmosphere just a great place to explore.
Historical and Cultural Exploration
La Candelaria
Start your day with a visit to La Candelaria, in the historic heart of Bogotá. This charming neighborhood is
home to colonial architecture, colorful houses, and cobblestone streets. Key attractions include:
-Plaza Bolívar: The main square surrounded by important buildings such as the Capitolio Nacional and Palacio de Justicia.
– Museo del Oro (Gold Museum): Houses an extensive collection of pre-Columbian gold artifacts.
– Museo Botero and Casa de Moneda Visit the Museo Botero, which showcases the works of Fernando Botero, Colombia’s most famous artist.
The adjacent Casa de Moneda features a fascinating collection of historical coins and currency.
Monserrate
A visit to Monserrate is mandatory it is a mountain that offers breathtaking views of Bogotá. You can reach
the summit by cable car, funicular, or a scenic hike. The summit features a church, gardens, and small
shops selling souvenirs. Stop for a meal at one of the gorgeous restaurants on top of Monserrate
Usaquén
If you are in town on a Sunday which we were not explore Usaquén, a charming neighborhood with a blend
of colonial and modern architecture. Visit the Usaquén Flea Market, where you can find unique crafts,
jewelry, and antiques. There is also a great food scene going on there so go hungry lots to explore.
Safety Tips for Bogotá
– Stay in Safe Areas: Zona T, Zona Rosa, and La Candelaria are generally safe for tourists.
– Use Reliable Transportation: Opt for official taxis or ride-sharing services like Uber for getting around the city.
And as always no flashy jewelry and when exploring out of the suggested areas use a local guide to keep
you out of trouble! It is always worth the few extra dollars it might cost you. I use viator or get your guide
for local tours. I recommend the food tours always to get a sense of a new place.
